Michael Pitt, 41, of ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ was reportedly hospitalized on Friday, September 9, after being accused of throwing items at people from a rooftop. Although the troubled actor was arrested, he was not charged because the incident is being treated as a mental health issue.
A concerned bystander reportedly called 911 to report that a male was possibly throwing objects from a rooftop at people. Cops arrested Pitt after quickly responding to the scene but never charged him with a crime due to his emotional instability, according to TMZ. Authorities took him to a nearby hospital. According to the outlet, this incident is a mental health issue that could lead to his hospitalization. Pitt’s current whereabouts are unknown. In New York, an involuntary psych hold can last only 72 hours unless the hospital petitions a judge to keep them longer, in which case the patient can stay for up to 60 days.
Pitt’s Previous Incidents
The actor, famous for roles in ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Murder by Numbers,’ Bernardo Bertolucci’s ‘The Dreamers,’ Gus Van Sant’s ‘Last Days,’ and Michael Haneke’s ‘Funny Games,’ got an arrest warrant earlier in July for assault and petty robbery at the exact location. Born in New Jersey, Pitt allegedly snatched a man’s phone from his grasp and repeatedly punched him in the head before taking the phone. Fortunately, the young man suffered only minor injuries, according to DailyMail.

Even in 2014, authorities accused Pitt of stealing a vintage car from a commercial set without permission while working with the clothing brand Rag and Bone. At the time, a source states, “Pitt goes for about 20 minutes and had not returned his phone call. He had no driver’s license with him. The owner became alarmed and informed the NYPD officer in charge of traffic control on set.” According to Yahoo!, the car has returned, and no charges has filed.
Following his departure from Boardwalk Empire, Michael Pitt appeared in films such as Seven Psychopaths, Criminal, and Ghost in the Shell, as well as three episodes of the cult-favorite series Hannibal (which Hulu subscribers can stream). He most recently appeared as Andrew Landon in the Apple TV+ show Lisey’s Story, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name. Pitt’s upcoming films include Reptile and Black Files, but for now, let’s hope he gets the help he needs for his mental health issues.
